Example: AKs against a strong range

You hold A♥K♥ and the opponent’s range is TT+,AQs+,AKo (tens or better, suited AQ or better, AK). Preflop you have about 46%, and a good part of that is split pots when the opponent also holds AK. On a Q♥ 7♥ 2♣ flop you have a flush draw and two overcards, and your equity rises to about 52%: only now are you a slight favourite.

How to use

Each player can be a hand or a range. Pick a hand from the deck or type As, Kh. For a range type AA,AKs,T9s+,22-55, or press Paint and drag across the 13×13 grid. Leave the board empty or pick 3, 4 or 5 cards; put known folded cards in Dead cards. Press Calculate; you can cancel at any time. The URL remembers the spot, so copying the link shares the same hand.

Assumptions & limits

Hold’em supports ranges and dead cards; PLO is hand vs hand only. Every combo in a range is equally likely unless you add a weight such as :50, and combos blocked by the board, dead cards or another player’s hand are removed. Hold’em uses the best 5 cards; PLO must use exactly 2 hole cards and 3 board cards. Ties split the pot. The tool does not infer why a player holds a range and ignores later betting.

Sampled estimates vary. The 95% confidence interval describes simulation error, not a strategy guarantee. When the board is nearly complete or the ranges are small, the result is fully enumerated and has no error.
